Recipe by Damaris Chevalier, Lovejoy’s Brand In-House Recipe Specialist
Crispy, golden, and addictively good.
These crunchy plantain chips—also known as tostones—are the perfect savory side, snack, or party bite. Fried twice for ultimate crispiness and seasoned simply, they’re an easy way to elevate your brunch or pair with a Lovejoy’s Bloody Mary.
Ingredients:
-
1 ripe plantain (also called a Macho banana)
-
Hot oil (for frying)
-
Salt and garlic powder (to taste)
Instructions:
-
Peel the plantain and slice it into ½-inch thick rounds.
-
In a pan, heat oil over medium-high heat. Carefully add the plantain pieces and fry until lightly golden (about 2–3 minutes per side).
-
Remove from oil and let cool slightly.
-
Using the bottom of a glass or a flat utensil, gently mash each piece until flattened like a chip.
-
Return the flattened plantains to the hot oil and fry again until crispy and golden brown.
-
Remove from oil, drain on paper towels, and immediately sprinkle with salt and garlic powder.
-
Serve hot—and don’t be surprised if they disappear fast.
Serving Idea:
Pair with guacamole, your favorite aioli, or enjoy them on their own with a cold Lovejoy’s Bloody Mary in hand.
